Metro Safety achieves second BAFE certification

Metro SRM has recently been successful in achieving third party certification for Fire Risk Assessments in accordance with the requirements of BAFE SP205.  Only a few other companies in the industry currently hold this certification.

BAFE is the independent third party registration body for the fire protection industry. Under the provisions of the Fire Safety Order 2005, the Responsible Person has a duty to undertake a suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment of the premises for which they are responsible, to identify the fire safety risks and clarify the precautions necessary to ensure the safety of staff, customers and/or residents.

By using companies that are certified under BAFE scheme SP205 the Responsible Person can demonstrate that they have done everything possible to meet their legal obligations and appoint competent Fire Risk Assessors.

Andrew Paten, Metro Safety Group, Managing Director said:

“We believe the achievement of BAFE SP205 certification for Fire Risk Assessments is an important reflection of the quality of the work that Metro SRM undertakes. It should give our many clients reassurance that when they work with Metro they are well covered for this critical area of compliance”.

To achieve certification Metro SRM had to undergo a rigorous assessment by 3rd party certification body SSAIB. This involved not only evaluating the technical competency of assessors but also an examination of the company’s quality management systems and processes.

Commenting on the news, Colin Bassnett, Principal Fire Safety Advisor said:

“This is a significant achievement and ratification of the quality of our work both in undertaking Fire Risk Assessments and in overall management procedures and documentation control.

Michael Skilleter led the project undertaking most of the work that was required to demonstrate our competency, although we fully recognise that without the support and efforts of the wider team we would not have been successful.

I would like to thank all of those who have worked either directly or in directly to help us achieve this significant mark of quality.”

This is the second BAFE certification for the Group. Metro Safety already has BAFE SP203-1 certification for Fire Detection and Alarm Systems (design).
