We installed white 2.5mm2 FP200 Gold cable in the dual use store speaker system and red 1.5mm2 for the fire alarm. The innovative speaker set-up gives daily information to shoppers and in the event of fire, depending on where you are in the building, tells you where to go to evacuate. Obviously for such a high profile installation, we needed a reliable cable, but also one that is quick to install; there are some 34,000 sq meters to cover. FP200 Gold fulfils both needs.”
FP200 Gold is approved to BSEN50200 PH30 and BS8434-1 for the ‘standard’ requirements of BS5839-1 for fire alarm systems and BS5839-8 for voice alarm systems, and the new BSEN50200 PH60 requirement of BS5266-1 for emergency lighting.
Southampton based Rigfone Electrics Ltd were contracted to install the more than 3,000 meters of FP400 cable required for the smoke venting and extractor systems of the facility, an integral part of the overall fire safety system.
FP400, the archetypal fire resistant armoured cable, complies with British Standard BS7846 Category F2 and is approved by BASEC. It is also LPCB approved to BS6387 Category CWZ. FP400 meets the requirements of BS5839-1 for use in ‘standard’ installations for fire detection and alarm systems and BS5266-1 for cables with ‘inherently high resistance to attack by fire’ for use in emergency lighting.
Being built on the site of a former Pirelli factory, the store is the second Ikea located in a UK town centre after Coventry and is expected to attract some 2 million customers a year.
