Important Information regarding transition from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015

You will all no doubt be aware that on 15th September 2018 ISO 9001:2008 will no longer be valid and ALL BAFE Registered companies that operate ISO 9001 with a BAFE Scheme as part of their scope will need to show they have a current ISO 9001:2015 certificate or, they have at least started the audit process with their Certification Body. This will primarily relate to our SP101 companies but may also affect other Schemes.

This is not just specifically for BAFE registered companies, but all organisations that wish to have third party accreditation to ISO 9001.

The International Accreditation Forum (IAF) – the association for world accreditation bodies – has stated that it is not sufficient for organisations to have merely carried out their gap analysis or to say they have booked their assessment, the assessment of your organisation must have started. If your assessment process has commenced then you will be given until March next year to close out any non-conformances. Their position is that if any organisation has yet to start the assessment process for transition to ISO 9001:2015 then organisations will lose their certification. This will of course effect your BAFE registration status. Your Certification Body will be aware of the statement issued through UKAS and will be able to provide further details.

Although the Standard has been implemented for more than three years, we are aware a number of companies have not yet transitioned to ISO 9001:2015 and I would urge all those companies to speak to their respective Certification Bodies for clarity on their certification status.

For further details please see the UKAS statement here or contact the BAFE office.
