The upcoming BSI Fire and Construction Industry Conference is nearly upon us

This conference is a must-attend event, which will include the latest updates on the proposed clarification of Approved Document ‘B’. It will also include an insight into standardization within the fire safety sector. Speakers from all aspects of the fire safety and construction communities will provide cutting edge opinions and commentary on the major issues facing the fire safety and construction sector.

Dame Judith Hackitt

Dame Judith Hackitt DBE (FREng, FIChemE, FCGI) is a British engineer and civil servant. A former Chair of the UK Health and Safety Executive, she is currently Chair of manufacturing trade body EEF. Dame Judith was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2006 for services to health and safety. and Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2016 New Year Honours for services to engineering and health and safety.

Neil O’Connor

Neil O’Connor is a Director at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). Since June 2017, he has been leading policy development on building safety following the Grenfell Tower tragedy. Neil’s career has spanned across five different Government departments and his other recent roles as a Director have included working on Dame Louise Casey’s review of community integration and leading the department’s work on fire and emergencies.

Richard Collin

Richard Collin (Head of European and National Policy) leads BSI’s consumer and public interest policy and engagement, managing the team that runs BSI’s Consumer and Public Interest Network. Richard is responsible for BSI’s policy development on the relationship between standards and regulation, with a particular focus on European public policy and EU affairs. Richard is also BSI Standards lead on all issues concerning Brexit.

Dr Debbie Smith

Dr Debbie Smith is Managing Director of BRE Global. Since joining BRE in 1984, she has been involved in fire related work in research, testing, certification and consultancy including the area of sustainability, specifically its impact on fire protection. Dr Smith has been heavily involved in the development of new European fire test methods and classification for construction products.

Dr Peter Wilkinson

Peter Wilkinson is founder and Director of Pyrology Limited, providing a wide range of safety, fire and risk engineering services to both established buildings and new-build projects. He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), the international organisation for fire professionals, helping to promote the profession and register professional engineers with the Engineering Council.

Ben Bradford

Ben Bradford is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of specialist consulting firm, BB7. His early career started in Building Regulations and progressed into the field of Fire Safety Engineering. He now holds duel professional qualifications as both a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Surveyor and the passion he has for these professions is unmistakable. In 2016 IFSEC Global kindly recognised Ben as ‘The Most Influential Person in Fire’.

Andrew Shipley

Andy Shipley is currently the Policy and Campaigns Manager for the spinal injury charity Aspire. He has enjoyed a long association with disability and fire safety. During his time at the Disability Rights commission between 2000 and 2007, Andy led on built environment policy, and worked with government and stakeholders from industry, to understand their responsibilities under the disability Discrimination Act and in particular, how these applied to the fire safety of disabled people.
