Fike Fire Detection Protects Victorian Pumping Station Featured on TVs ‘Restoration Man’

Fike Safety Technology’s TWINFLEX®pro smart 2-wire fire detection system has been installed in a fabulous conversion of an old Victorian Pumping Station that was recently featured on Channel 4’s popular ‘Restoration Man’ TV series. Hosted by Architect George Clark, each episode follows one restoration project from start to finish, focussing on people who are restoring and breathing new life into unusual buildings. The end result for the Pumping Station is a stunning contemporary family home, which has brought life back into a disused local landmark.

The TWINFLEX®pro system was recommended and installed by Fireguard Ltd as it provided cost-effective fire detection without comprising on specification and quality.  A 4-zone panel and 16 Multipoint detectors and call points were installed using just two wires per zone. The Multipoint detector further reduces costs as it has a built-in sounder and 7-modes of operation, allowing one type of detector to be installed in any environment. Multipoint has 3 different smoke modes, 2 fixed temperature heat modes, a rate of rise mode and a combination smoke or heat mode. The system is suitable for installation in small residences like the Pumping House as well as large buildings such as Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) and office blocks. Repeater panels can also be connected to the main control panel to allow remote monitoring of the system for larger installations.

Checkpoint Alarm Confirmation Technology is a feature of the system that has seen TWINFLEX®pro installed extensively in applications such as HMO. This is a configurable pre-alarm that can be set on detectors in dwelling areas that allows time to investigate the cause of the alarm before building-wide evacuation is initiated. This can significantly reduce the disruption from nuisance alarms.

This versatile system has the ability to differentiate between call point and detector alarms; can accommodate a maximum of 32 devices per zone; has separate fault monitoring display for each zone; incorporates a man walk test facility and zones can be configured without the need to use resistors or capacitors. To make the TWINFLEX®pro system even more flexible, Fike can also provide an input/output unit. This can be situated anywhere on the zone circuit and is ideal for connecting to equipment such as plant shutdown controls and door release mechanisms.
