FPA opens new Research and Testing Facility

The Fire Protection Association, the UK’s national fire safety organisation, has opened a new fire testing and experimental facility in Gloucestershire, where their team of experienced scientists and engineers can undertake a wide range of testing, research and fire investigation work.

This large, indoor versatile laboratory space can assist manufacturers and end users develop and assess the performance of products and protection systems in a controlled and secure environment using state-of-the-art monitoring and recording equipment.

Examples of our work include:

  • fit-for-purpose testing of product and methods
  • development of new technologies and assessment of prototype designs
  • post fire investigation studies
  • fire reconstructions
  • real world suitability investigations
  • sprinkler head testing
  • flame and heat detector tests and evaluation

FPA is independent of all product suppliers, installers and product manufacturers so can guarantee a confidential and impartial service providing customers with reliable, objective advice tailored to your own exact requirements. The laboratory is fully equipped with environmental handling systems for smoke and liquid effluent.

The new facilities will also accommodate practical hands-on training to complement our popular class-based courses across a wide range of topics, such as installation and maintenance of fire detection and alarm systems; sprinkler systems maintenance; fire and smoke behaviour; structural fire resistance; and portable fire extinguisher maintenance
