Spectrum Healthcare Launch Bariatric Evacmat

Originally part of a pilot scheme with Bradford Hospital and West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, the EvacMat is designed to assist emergency services personnel and/or designated moving & handling staff to evacuate bariatric patients/service users, in the event of an emergency.

 

Whilst the involvement of Fire & Rescue Services in the evacuation process would seem contrary to the Fire Order 2005, it has been accepted by several of the Services that for moving & handling staff to manage the evacuation without the assistance of local Fire & Rescue Services would be impractical and potentially dangerous!

 

The EvacMat can assist with horizontal and/or vertical evacuation and it has a tough slippery base which enables patients/service users to be moved over any interior or exterior surface.

 

The device has colour coded cross straps and the patient/service user is securely cocooned, with the body weight held in place to facilitate easier (and more stable) movement of the EvacMat.

 

As well as six ladder handles (two on each side and one at each end) it also has short positioning handles in place around the EvacMat, along with four anchor points.
