Test the strength of Schott safety glass at BAU

Innovative glass solutions open up new possibilities for a wide variety of different applications.
The international technology group SCHOTT will be presenting solutions in the areas of security and fire protection, as well as architecture and design, at BAU 2013. One particularly spectacular highlight at the exhibition will be the chance to personally test the safety glasses PYRANOVA® secure and NOVOLAY® secure inside an impact cabinet at the SCHOTT booth (C2-139). With SCHOTT GlassX® crystal, the company will be unveiling a heat storage module that is capable of absorbing, storing and releasing incident solar energy as radiant heat, during the colder times of the day. In addition, an installation that features non-round CONTURAX® Pro glass tubing will also be on display at its booth. These unique glass profiles offer architects, designers and artists completely new design possibilities.
 
 
With PYRANOVA® secure and NOVOLAY® secure, SCHOTT will be presenting its highly effective safety glass products that prevent fire, smoke and heat radiation from spreading in the event of a fire and offer protection against break-ins and small arms fire. These special glass products from Jena qualify for all of the maximum fire resistance classes without exception. In addition, SCHOTT safety glasses meet additional demands with respect to offering protection against thrown projectiles, penetration, and bullet resistance that apply for the latest generation of personal and property protection. In fact, the two glazing products PYRANOVA® secure and NOVOLAY® secure are even known for their extremely light weight: they can be less than half as thick and heavy as competitive products. Other key advantages these glass products offer include higher transparency and high thermal resistance. SCHOTT will be giving visitors to BAU the unique opportunity to test the strength of the two products PYRANOVA® secure and NOVOLAY® secure for themselves inside an impact cabinet at the SCHOTT booth (C2-139).
 
Additionally, with SCHOTT GlassX® crystal, the company will be presenting a unique façade solution that integrates the four system components transparent thermal insulation, protection from overheating, conversion of energy and thermal energy storage into a single functional unit. A thermal storage module that contains a Phase Change Material (PCM) can be considered the main element of this solution. It absorbs excess heat and releases it again during the colder evening hours. This is made possible by a salt hydrate that melts when exposed to intensive solar radiation and stores the energy that would otherwise result in uncomfortable overheating of the interior of the room. The PCM discharges by releasing heat by way of crystallization during the cooler evening hours and at night. GlassX® allows for architecture to be realized that relies heavily on glass, yet meets the criteria that apply for an energy-efficient building, by offering the combined advantages of glass façades and massive walls.
 
Finally, SCHOTT will also be presenting new areas of application for glass in the fields of architecture, art and design at its booth in the form of a 3.2 meter high glass wall made of CONTURAX® Pro profile tubing. This is made possible by the special shape of the profile tubing: square, rectangular or even combinations of round and square are available. CONTURAX® Pro allows for unique partitions, door and window frames, lighting solutions and shading systems to be created that offer interesting design options. This new generation of profile tubing made of glass is not only known for its wide variety of shapes, but also the high transparency and hardness of this glass.
